Deciding who goes where on a football team has to do with what they are capable of potentially achieving. Running backs are typically agile and fast, built for speed and distance. You can tell which one is the running back due to their position on the offensive side. Blocking and protecting the quarterback is another function of this position. Running backs are sometimes trained to throw the ball when a trick play is called. There are many more possible plays that a running back may do to help win the game.
The rules of football must be followed or penalties will occur on the field which can cost your team points. Everyone knows that the defense, as well as the offense, cannot cross the scrimmage line before the ball is in play. It is helpful to think in terms of player coverage. It is as simple as sticking to the plan called by the quarterback and watching your space. Those that play the game must be aware of their responsibilities for their position and what they need to carry out. Certain movements and responsibilities are designated to each and every player on the defense. Players must also memorize the plays that will be given during the game to execute them properly.
All football teams have what are called, special teams. Essentially, special teams are designated as such for plays involving kicking the ball. In these plays where the ball must be kicked, the ball can be punted or an attempt for a field goal is made. During a three point attempt, or once a score has been made, the field goal attempt is made. The third play is where you kick off to the opposite team when there has been a score, at the beginning of a game or in the third quarter after half time has finished. The special team members include the place kicker, punter and there is also the long snapper who is responsible for snapping the ball to the punter. And don’t forget the special team runners, who go and retrieve the ball after a kick-off punt has been made. There are, of course, rules that each level has that are exactly the same. Therefore, when a player makes the transition from one level to another, the process shouldn’t be a problem.
